Packing List

In case you're trying to pare down your packing, here's the itinerary I've been able to come up with.  The best advice I can give you is to pack COMFORTABLE shoes.  We may leave in the morning and not come back to the hotel until 10pm.  Wear something that your feet won't be complaining in.  Also, layer.  It's near 60 during the day, but it's in the 40's at night.

The 10-day forecast on weather.com says Paris will be in the low 60's and sunny while we're there.

The forecast in Nice is about the same (if not a few degrees cooler).

Thursday-Friday-fly.  Sweats.

Friday afternoon.  Drop stuff in hotel room and start on our first journey.  We're staying near the Eiffel tower, so I think we'll head towards the Arch de Triumphe (possibly walk up it), take a walk down the Champs Elysee, through the high fashion district and up to the Opera house and Galleries Lafayette.  We'll find dinner somewhere along our trip.

Saturday:  morning tour of Paris including a trip inside the Louvre.  Wear your comfortable shoes!  After we leave the Louvre, I think we'll head up to the Marche aux Puces (flea market).  After that, we'll head to Montmartre for a walk around this neighborhood, followed by dinner and a walk-through of Sacre Couer (monks chant) and seeing the city of Lights at night.

Sunday:  We'll hit the catacombs as soon as they open.  After that, we'll head north through Luxembourg gardens, the Latin quarter, Ile St. Louis (best ice cream in the city), and up to the marais district for some retail therapy.  Dinner is early evening on the Eiffel Tower!  We may want to dress-up a little.  We may do a walk along the Seine after dinner.

Monday:  EARLY transfer to the train station for our 6 hour ride to Nice.  Card games, books, or sleep are a good idea here.  And, comfy clothes.  When we arrive, we'll drop our stuff at the hotel, and go on a walking tour of Nice.  We can explore more after the tour and find dinner.

Tuesday:  I'm thinking we'll hop the train in the morning to either Cannes and/or Juan-les-Pins/Antibes.  We'll spend the day dipping our toes in the Mediterranean, shopping, and enjoying a smaller view of France living (not so much in Cannes).  We may stay until dinner and take an evening train home.  Casual clothing, but I wouldn't bring a swim suit.  Too cold.  Shorts may even be too cold in the evening.

Wednesday:  We're heading to Monaco and Eze for the day.  We'll walk around and up many, many stairs.  Monaco is SUPER windy.

Thursday:  We leave for the airport for our long trip home.  Sounds like a great day to wear sweats!
